How to change the battery on a 2004 pt cruiser?

I am unable to remove the air cleaner housing in order to reach the 13mm and 10mm nuts or bolts holding the battery secure. It also appears that when the battery is freed it will be extremely difficult to remove it from under the left front quarter panel which curves over the front left corner of the battery. On the right side of the battery the radiator hose is in close proximity and I am not sure that the battery will clear it. What do I do?How to change the battery on a 2004 pt cruiser?
although it appears that there is not much room , there is actually plenty. All you have to do it undo the 2 clips in the front of the air cleaner. then use a flathead screwdriver and undo the clamp on the end of the throttle body. This will give you access to the battery. When you have it unbolted just pull straight up and it will come out.How to change the battery on a 2004 pt cruiser?

How to quick fix a crack cylinder head for a car?

I've got a 3 cyl turbo daihatsu 1988 mdl had water problem and the mechanics changed the head gasket, but radiator still bubbling of air. So I was told it might have a hairline crack on the head.Is there a treatment for this? I was told there's a chemical treatment for this. If it is true can you tell me what to put in the radiator? thanks. How to quick fix a crack cylinder head for a car?
No, if it a crack in the cylinder head there are no quick fixed.

Because the cylinder head block is made in one whole cast.

The gasket is for between the head and the engine block, where else what need to be change is the rubber seal in each of the water jacket between the head and engine block.

If it a hair line crack, it can be tested by performing a pressure test. How to quick fix a crack cylinder head for a car?
Your Mechanic SUCKS. It is standard procedure to have the cylinder head magnafluxed to check for cracks.--Alumaseal will help, if you're in a TIGHT pinch crack an egg in the radiator, it is NOT a permanent fix but it'll keep it plugged for a little while. How to quick fix a crack cylinder head for a car?
Let's see, bad luck with ceramic/ glass sealant. OK luck with alumiseal and bars~leak. still never fixed anything totally. How to quick fix a crack cylinder head for a car?
go to your local autoparts store and tell them you need a head gasket sealer, (the type you add to your radiator) ignore any wise cracks and give it a try as products of that type have helped me keep cars running for much longer than most people think. How to quick fix a crack cylinder head for a car?
As an automotive mech. I would say any additives will only gunk up the works for later. Bset thing to do is replace the head. In the long run all the money you spend on ways to repair it will be wasted cause it will need to be replaced reguardless.

so spend lots of small amounts on fix its or go ahead and pay for a replacement now..How to quick fix a crack cylinder head for a car?
You need to get it properly diagnosed. It might not be the head... It could very well be the block. My hubby is a grease monkey and doesn't know of any %26quot;quick fix%26quot; that is surefire. There's something called Stop Leak (or something close to that) but it can end up rusting stuff and blocking up your heater core and radiator. If you just need your car to run for a while and don't need it long term, go ahead and try that.

How do I fix My S-10 from ticking (lifter)?

I bought a 2003 ZR2 S-10 4.3 Vortec V6 in December. I drove it from Chicago to Detroit with no problems. I had the oil, trans and radiator flushed and changed. I changed the thermostat three weeks ago (Jan) because of overheating, and refilled the coolant. Now (Feb) I get a ticking when I start the truck cold, it goes away when the engine warms up. I hasn't made this noise before. The oil level is good and pressure is at 40. I've driven a Ford most of my life and wanted a change. Did I make a mistake buying a Chevy? How do I fix My S-10 from ticking (lifter)?
cheap fix to flush lifters clean is to add a quart of automatic trans. fluid about 100 to 2000 miles before you change oil this should clean the lifters out if not you either have a stck lifter or maybe a cam going GOOD LUCKHow do I fix My S-10 from ticking (lifter)?
keep oil fresh...ticking cause no oil on lifters on cold start and it takes a while to get there...it's cold ya know and thicker...or my dodge does that cause the bearings are going out on the idler pulley...maybe a belt slapping....i wouldn't worry too much as long as it runs good...How do I fix My S-10 from ticking (lifter)?
I'd add a quart of Lucas oil treatment the next time you do a oil change instead of one of the quarts of oil.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way Lucas could even help by adding a few thick drops now to the oil.How do I fix My S-10 from ticking (lifter)?
Up Waite your oil and have your valves readjusted! Don't try any TV gimmicks ( for give my spelling )How do I fix My S-10 from ticking (lifter)?
The %26quot;Lucas treatment%26quot; only HIDES the noise. It will NOT fix it. Shotty Mechanics use that trick to sell cars. The guy that sold it to you probably used that trick himself. Aside from that, A ticking noise can come from almost any where. A trick to see if it is a lifter or not....Take a flat head screw driver, Put the handle to your hear and the Flat metal head on your valve cover. If you hear a nice loud tick then you should look into fixing your lifter.

If you have a 4.3 Chevy motor you actually have a great motor and I wouldn't pay it any mind. Keep an eye on the oil level. I drove and 85 s-10 around for about 7 years and changed the oil one time. Just kept adding when I thought it was low. :D

  • In general, are Audis difficult to service?

Some German cars are difficult to service. The designs are very complicated. I heard that Audi A4 require that you take off the front bumper skin and grill to change a headlight bulb and some major body parts need to be taken off to change the water pump. Is this true or at least my impression? I heard that 1980's Maserati Biturbos needed radiator removal to change the oil...very stupid design or designed by someone with no regard to costs and labor. How about Audis, particularly the A4? I am looking for a slightly better car, like Volvo S60, Saab 9-3, Acura TSX, Lexus IS250 AWD, etc.In general, are Audis difficult to service?
Audi's are complicated and repair costs will reflect that fact. Audi shops also charge a lot in labor, compared with Honda/Acura mechanics for example. Audi's are also known for their electrical gremlins. If you are concerned about repair costs, I would avoid Audi or stay under a warranty. In general, are Audis difficult to service?
Expensive to service. In general, are Audis difficult to service?
Yes, I've done that headlight job, it's a joke but not a funny joke. They have lifetime tranny fluid, lifetime, are you kidding me? You can't even check the one I dealt with. Yes expensive to maintain. In general, are Audis difficult to service?
NO you dont have to remove the whole front end to change a headlight

    1999 Sable-- No Heat?

Hi Everyone-We aren't getting any heat and we could hear a squealing noise. We just had a new radiator put in about 4 months ago and we keep checking it to make sure we have no leaks. The fluid was going down a little and we think we solved that problem by getting a new radiator cap. We live in Massachusetts and need the heat!! My question is--could it be a belt? Or maybe the water pump? Or just a thermostat? I guess i could take it to a service station and have them put it on a computer to find out, but--they charge so much and seeing xmas is right around the corner I am sort of strapped. I just had all new brakes put on and bought a new battery and also the radiator. Should we change the thermostat first and see if it's that? I'm so confused. My b/f will do the work although he isn't a mechanic but has helped others on their cars and he is pretty good. Any help will be very much appreciated and I will let Santa know how you tried to help me. HO HO HO. TYVM!!!!1999 Sable-- No Heat?
The squealing is either the Serpentine Belt Tensioner or the Idler Pulley or a combination of the two. Given that this is a 99' Sable adn I've been bit by this one before I always recommend replacing both the complete tensioner assembly and the idler pulley at the same time. Both are highly prone to failure anyway.

That is not why your vehicle has no heat though.

Assuming your coolant level is good Sable's are also notorious for literally eating thermostats. On the very first really cold day of winter I will see in my shop on average 6-7 Taurus/Sable's that have thermostats that have either just failed or have literally fallen apart. This (along with the radiator cap) should have been replaced at the same time as the radiator. If your engine temperature guage is not rising quickly or not going up to normal operating temp that is a good indicator your T-stat is the problem.

A $60 coolant flush every other year would have prevented all of this.1999 Sable-- No Heat?
I'd start with the thermostat, it's cheap enough to replace. But the squealing noise makes me think it's the water pump. Not so cheap or easy to replace.1999 Sable-- No Heat?
you say you can hear a squealing noise,is it when you rev the engine,if it is when you rev the engine then the water pump has gone.but you would notice water coming out from under the engine.there are three possibilties for no heat (1) the sensor on the side of the engine block has gone(2) you have a airlock in your system that needs bleeding(3)like you said thermostat

hope this helps you1999 Sable-- No Heat?
the squealing noise is from the belt slipping against the pulley or from the bearing on the pulley which is already kaputt.....try changing the belt or the pulley's bearing...1999 Sable-- No Heat?

Once an aga has been installed?

Our AGA does not heat our water or any radiators, can we change it to heat our water, what about heat a few radiators and also how easy would it be to do or would it need to be reinstalled?Once an aga has been installed?
The whole thing will have to be dismantled to fit the water tank unfortunately and as I recall, according to AGA the stoves will only heat the hot water and only if the storage tank is within a certain pipe run. (about 30ft I think - it is 16 years since we fitted ours ! )Once an aga has been installed?
Hi there, if the Aga can still be accessed at the rear where the pipework connections go, you should be O.K. If you look at the side and rear and see if you find the connections, that should be enough for a plumber to connect to. You will still have to get the Flow %26amp; Return connected to your existing system, and disconnect whatever was heating your radiators previously. You will also have to consider controls for the system, such as a pump on the system or gravity feed only. If it is pumped, you can use that to run your radiators and heat your hot water through an indirect cylinder coil quite efficiently.

I would first decide what I wanted, ideally. Then get 3 plumbers to quote for the work, then look at each quote and decide which is best for quality and cost. It does seem a waste to have the facility ther and not take advantage of it.

    Good luck.

I know a little about cars. I have changed timing belts alternator belts alternators etc... I need a new radiator for my car. I think i could probably save quite a bit of money to do it myself. Is this an extremely difficult task to accomplish? Also, anyone have an estimate of about how much a mechanic would charge? Thanks in advanceAny mechanics on here or anyone that can answer a radiator question?
Depending on the car, if you've changed the things you've changed it shouldn't be hard. Have to take off the fan shroud, and fans. Upper and lower radiator hoses, two transmission cooling lines and hold down screws where ever they are on your car. Take out radiator and put new one in, Can save a bunch.

I supervised two twenty year old girls on a 2001 Neon and they did all the work.

Good luck.Any mechanics on here or anyone that can answer a radiator question?
I'm not a mechanic, but I've changed a radiator before. It isn't that hard to do (depending on the car). You would save yourself a lot of money by doing it yourself. Be prepared to drain the coolant. Usually a upper and lower hose and transmission coolant lines (if your car has an automatic transmission). A few bolts. Front-wheel drive cars, you may have to remove the fans. The newer the car, the harder the job gets. Use your best judgment. It's not the easiest job, but its not rocket science either.Any mechanics on here or anyone that can answer a radiator question?

not that hard.......btw in the US https://www.1800radiator.com/ is hard to beat on prices.......for the part.....but i would also tell u to check around locally

my wife's radiator cost 199 at auto-zone and advance and oreilly's but napa had it with same warranty for 139....and those buildings are literally next to each other in my town......

as for doing the work ir ur unsure buy haynes manual for ur car and follow directions its not hard.......Any mechanics on here or anyone that can answer a radiator question?
If you can change a timing belt or alternator you surely can change out a radiator without any trouble. Just go for itAny mechanics on here or anyone that can answer a radiator question?
Its pretty strait forward, Just remove the cover over the fan blade, disconnect the hoses and remove the bolts and slip it out, Do the reverse to put it back in, Now the most important thing is refilling the radiator, Just pouring it in will leave you air pockets ao to relieve this problem, jack up the front of the car just a little(this will allow the air pocket to vent themselves out), than start the engine, and slowly fill the radiator allowing time for it to go threw the motor and heater core(turn the heater on full blast by the way) you will notice alot of bubbling, Thats normal, even a little over flow is normal. Once the bubbling has stopped and the radiator is full lower the car and test drive for about ten minutes and check the levels again. Good luck

How do i re-fill my car radiator without getting any ait locks?

can anyone help? i have a 1998 ford escort 1.6 16v zetec and i need to change my thermostat, i have no problem doing that its just i know im going to get an air lock as soon as i loose water from the thermostat when i change it, i just need to find out how to re-fill my radiator without getting an air lock, can you please help???

thanksHow do i re-fill my car radiator without getting any ait locks?
after fitting thermostat fill radiator turn your heater to hot dont need blower on leave top off expansion tank and let the engine idle you will see the water rising as air is escaping keep topping water up until no more air comes out the main reason for air locks is because people forget to turn heater up to hot this stops the small radiator inside the car from filling. How do i re-fill my car radiator without getting any ait locks?
Run it up to Temperature with the water cap off

When its up there %26quot;squeeze%26quot; the water pipe below the rad so that the air bubbles come out in the opening of the water cap

When the bubbles stop and its just water coming to the surface then you've got rid of the air lock

Good luckHow do i re-fill my car radiator without getting any ait locks?
Fill it up, run it a while, and it should blow any air up to the top of the system, CAREFULLY..release the air by CAREFULLY removing the cap on the header tank, and then top up when it has cooled down a little.

I have radiators in my house and i am looking to change to baseboard heating. What does that entail.?

i would like to know if there is any websites and how to do it and about how much....my system has two pipes connected to it and i think one is the fill and the other is the return....please helpI have radiators in my house and i am looking to change to baseboard heating. What does that entail.?
If your current radiators are steam radiators (the old heavy heavy ones) like mine, you have a BOILER as your heat supply. Steam travels from the boiler to the radiators and heats them up. The returns are for the water that condenses to go back to the boiler.

To change over to a baseboard heating system, it would be hot water instead of steam, so you would not use the same central unit. It would heat the water like your water heater rather than super-heating it to steam. You could probably use a lot of your current pipe infrastructure so you wouldn't have to tear everything out between the %26quot;furnace%26quot; and the baseboards.

You're looking at about 5 thousand or less for a heating system (furnace) plus the baseboards. Installation will also be a cost factor. Your best bet is to call you local gas, oil, or electric company (whoever will be the service provider) to ask about a package. If it is an energy-efficient system, you may also be eligible for a tax break.

    Good luck.

How easy is it to flush the radiator to a Honda accord engine.?

I just refilled the radiator with antifreeze after leaving the cap off on accident when driving. But I have never flushed the radiator. If it has been flushed, it would have been done during oil changes. Should I do it now? I just refilled my radiator. I know I should do it to get rid of rust and other forign objects but what other benefits are there? How easy is it to flush the radiator to a Honda accord engine.?
An engines cooling system should be flushed out at least every couple of years.Anti-freeze never looses it freeze protection provided no water is added but the rust and corrosion inhibitors break down and can and will cause damage in an engine. If your not comfortable doing it just have it done at a shop,it shouldn,t cost a lot of money. But if you do it yourself just open the drain plug located on the bottom of the radiator and catch the old coolant and dispose of it properly. And then open a heater hose and run clean water thru the open radiator cap until it begins to run out the heater hose.At first it will be green(the old anti-freeze) and then it will turn clear as you get out all the old anti-freeze.Then stop adding water and let it drain again until it stops. Then close the radiator drain but leave the heater hose open and held up as high as it will go.Then beginn adding the new anti-freeze,you will see water begin to come out of the open heater hose but this is good just keep adding more anti-freeze until it begins to turn green, at this time you know that you have pushed most of the plain water thru the radiator the engine block and it has now worked it,s way all the way to the heater hoses.Continue adding new anti-freeze until what comes out your heater hose looks like straight anti-freeze and then reattach the heater hose and tighten the clamp. Now top off the radiator and the coolant overflow or recovery tank and then run the engine until the thermostat opens(the top radiator hose gets hot to the touch) and make sure that the radiator is still full and then put the rad. cap back on and top off the recovery tank. Then go drive the vehicle for 5 or 10 miles and come back and recheck the level in the coolant recovery tank and top off if needed. And thats all there is to it.Also check the freeze protection, it should be good to about 20 below to be safe.Good luck. How easy is it to flush the radiator to a Honda accord engine.?
to me there is nothing better than good clean coolant in an engine. flush it as often as you like. it cannot hurt the engine as long as you replace the anti-freeze with the recommended type and amount you should be fine. flushing is easy...just open the drain plug on the bottom of radiator and run cold water through the radiator while it drains out the bottom. make sure the car is running, of course to flush the debris out of the engine block, heater core, etc.

once the water runs clear, then close the drain and refill to normal levels with coolant and water. How easy is it to flush the radiator to a Honda accord engine.?
If you just filled it, leave it be.. whats the water look like, what makes you think you need to flush? Any parts store sells a can of rad flush.. just do as it says to, make sure you remove hoses and flush out good with clean water once your done.. Best I can tell you..ROB

Since you have done oil changes and brake jobs before you should be able to do it. I would advice to have a friend help you out. Because it will go better that way. A manual will help you out. Do it when the engine is cold. I would also advice you get new hoses and a new thermostat and of course anti freeze.

http://www.slantfin.com/heat-loss-softwaHow do I know the output of the radiator to buy?
Multiply the volume of the room in ft cubed by 5 to get an approximate BTU needed to heat the room How do I know the output of the radiator to buy?
This is what I use: Good luck.

    Sizeing Radiators

The size of radiator required for a room depends on two factors. Firstly, the temperature that you want it to be able to maintain which is a relatively straightforward task and you can use the table below as a guide: -A huge range of radiators can be bought here and you can work out exactly what you need by using the BTU calculator on the same page

    Ideal Room Temperatures (deg C)

    Lounge 21

    Dining Room 21

    Kitchen 16

    Bedrooms 15

    Bathroom 23

    Stairs 18

Secondly, the heat loss from your room. The calculations for this are quite complex since they depend upon the size of windows, numbers of doors and, in particular, the construction materials used in the building (Click here to calculate the 'U' values) to get an accurate radiator size. Too big and the system will overshoot its temperature and be less economical to run, to small and it won't reach its desired temperature. (Some of the poorer installers get round this complex step by putting in radiators that are to big, and then fitting thermostatic radiator valves to every radiator to cut the heat down.) This calculation produces a heat loss figure in watts, of how much heat you need to warm that room up to the design temperature from -3 deg C in one hour.

Heat and Plumb can supply: Traditional Radiators, Vertical Radiators, Low Surface Temperature Radiators, Aeon Designer Radiators, Electric Radiators, Night Storage Heaters, Automatic radiator Bleeders, Column Radiators, Cast Iron Radiators, Stelrad Radiators

A quick and easy way to calculate the size of the radiator required for any room in your house is by measuring the room in cubic feet and then applying the following factors to the figure arrived at: - To work out the exact BTU vlaue, click here for a calculator halfway fddown the page.

Lounges and dining rooms Multiply cubic feet by 5

Bedrooms Multiply cubic feet by 4

Common areas and kitchens Multiply cubic feet by 3

For rooms facing north Add 15%

    For French windows Add 20%

    For double glazing Deduct 10%

This will give you the output of any radiator in BTUs (British Thermal Units). Adding the total for all the rooms in your home will give you the approximate demand in BTUs for the whole house. Add 20% to the total for a hot water circulating tank and 10% for general losses. This will give you the boiler size you need for your house. Obviously these calculations are approximate and while giving you an excellent idea of the sizes you will require, it would be best to get this checked by the installer.

It is very unlikely that any radiator will match the exact heat required, so select the first size of radiator above the heat requirement. With rooms greater than 6 meters (18ft) in any one direction, it is worth considering distributing a number of radiators to minimise the thermal gradient within the room. My 65 mustang is overheating in a short period of driving what can be the reason?

Could it be that the radiator fluid needs to be change, if so how can i do that?My 65 mustang is overheating in a short period of driving what can be the reason?
The most common things that come to mind are:

Check your coolant level - If it is too low, fill it up with 50/50 mix of anti-freeze coolant and water.

Make sure that there is no blockage to the air that flows across the radiator.

The thermostat could be stuck closed. An easy, cheap repair to replace.

The fan belt that drives the water pump could be missing. Install new fan belt.

The coolant pump could be stuck. Replace the pump. Again, a fairly easy repair.

One nice thing about a '65 Mustang is that not only is it very easy to repair, but also that most repair parts are still available from your Ford dealer. What Ford does not have, there are lots of aftermarket manufacturers that produce excellent repair parts. My 65 mustang is overheating in a short period of driving what can be the reason?
This is a 44 year old car. What is the condition of the radiator? If you havent changed the fluid repeatedly then flush the radiator and change the thermostat. I am betting you may need a new radiator or are low on fluid. If the thermostat is bad it will sometimes collapse the hoses because it creates a vacuum in the radiator. This could also be a waterpump issue. These are relatively cheap, but you could spend 400- 500 on a a waterpump, new radiator, antifreeze and thermostat. My 65 mustang is overheating in a short period of driving what can be the reason?
if over a short distance you mean less than 20 miles it is probably one of the the following 1 the thermostat is stuck 2 the radiator is dirty 3 the water pump is inop. quick and dirty testing with te engine cold make sure the radiator is full look at the belts and (WITH THE ENGINE OFF KEY IN POCKET) check to see if the belt that goes over the pulley in the middle (the one the fan is on) is tight tighten or replace if needed then ok thru the front of the car and see if the fins are blocked with debris/dirt ok next start the eng and very carefully check the upper radiator hose (squeeze it) as the engine warms up the thermostat will not allow water thru the hose until it reaches a certain temp ie most motors of that era are 180-185 rev the motor the hose should try to push your fingers apart if you dont feel any water pressure - like a garden hose- then replace the thermostat about $10 and easy to DIY if not fixed find someone who knows motors and get there help or take it to a shop to have it tested - cheaper than buying a new motor-other things that can cause this lean fuel condition, defective exhaust, incooerct valve/ignition timing etc how this helps GLMy 65 mustang is overheating in a short period of driving what can be the reason?
Could be a bad vacuum advance and some one advanced the timing to get it to idle correctly.Could be restricted water flow in the radiator core. These cars were notorius for over heating when new back in 1965.You might consider placeing a air dam under the bumper frame area to help divert cool air threw the radiator. My 65 mustang is overheating in a short period of driving what can be the reason?
Could be a few things . You might need a new themostat, which is not to hard If there is a reservoir check that the cap is in good condition the worst it could be is a crack inthe block or a head gasket. • How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?

I have a 306 diesel and need to change the front break pads on my 306. i have done regular maintenance on it and change the oil, filters etc etc and drained the coolant from the radiator etc etc. i have to haynes manual for this car so is it pretty easy to do. also is it worth doing the discs as well? How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?
Front pads should take an average 'kerbside' mechanic about 45 minutes per side once the wheels are off.- longer if you have the usual 4 cuppa's! Ensure the car is adequately supported remove the bolts securing the pads in place, then using a couple of large flat bladed screwdrivers gradually force the pads %26amp; piston back into the calliper ( alternating ends). Discs may require you to remove the calliper assembly with a splined drive socket - size 50 torx ( it did when I changed them on my 406 as the discs will not go over the hubs) If you do the discs as well - about 75-90 minutes per sideHow easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?
simple enough but you may need certain tools to remove calipers before discs,in order to remove pads find a g clamp to push slowly the pistons back fully put in pads with a small amount of copper grease only on the rear of pads then remove full caliper to remove disc but be careful of just letting it hang by its rubber pipe. How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?
Just to add to the first answer re the discs - if they are wearing thin, have a lip all round the outer rim, are badly corroded or scored it is best to replace them at the same time as the pads. Not always easy to get them off without a puller but some do come straight off. refer to Haynes. How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?
    Wow! Three good answers already.

    Only a little to add.

Rotors have a minimum thickness, usually stamped on them.

Your rotors may be able to be skimmed if they have suitable thickness left.

They should have no lips, discolouration, grooves etc

Make sure your replacement pads look identical to the ones on your car before getting too far into the job (ie check as soon as you get a wheel off). There are often different pads and the shop may not have got it right....

OK, I Just changed my thermostat and had my Taurus flushed and filled (radiator)and still no heat from heater?

So my next guess is the heater core, if so, where is it and how hard is it to change ?OK, I Just changed my thermostat and had my Taurus flushed and filled (radiator)and still no heat from heater?
Bandit is correct despite the thumbs down someone gave him. You have to flush the heater core seperatly from the radiator, just disconnect both hoses at the fire wall and runa GENTLE stream of water through it in both directions. You will see how much rust and gunk comes out. Don't use too much pressure or you could damage the core causing it to leak into the car interior.OK, I Just changed my thermostat and had my Taurus flushed and filled (radiator)and still no heat from heater?
Its not the heater core. Means there is still air in the cooling system. Have to find that bleed port, on the highest point of the cooling system, and slowly open it to get the air out.OK, I Just changed my thermostat and had my Taurus flushed and filled (radiator)and still no heat from heater?
make sure you run the car long enough to get the engine warm. otherwise it will not blow heat. i know it is simple but sometimes i overlook the simple things.OK, I Just changed my thermostat and had my Taurus flushed and filled (radiator)and still no heat from heater?
There is a valve on the hoses that supply coolant to the heater. It is probably not working. Usually vacuum operated.OK, I Just changed my thermostat and had my Taurus flushed and filled (radiator)and still no heat from heater?
if you just flushed the radiator then that,s not going to help the heater core. you need to flush it too.

How do I adjust the temperature on my radiator?

My dorm room has a big, old radiator under the window and I don't know how to change the temperature. There is a black knob on top that screws in and out - will that change the temperature? If so, will screwing it all the way in or all the way out make the room warmer? How do I adjust the temperature on my radiator?
Radiators are usually filled with water, but sometimes oil. The liquid is heated in a central furnace and the hot liquid then carried by pipes to each radiator unit. The screw will open or close the inlet that allows the flow of liquid through it. My Guess is screwing it in will close the valve and out will open it.

Of course, if the central boiler or heat unit is not on then you will not be able to gain any heat from it.

You can also place a small fan on the floor near the radiator to blow air across it. This will help heat up the room quicker. How do I adjust the temperature on my radiator?
yes if the heat is on it will make it wormer by screwing it out and cooler by screwing it in to make it cooler.

You can get a radiator flush kit from auto Zone or Kragen where you install a fitting in the heater line to attach a garden hose to flush after you drain radiator. Just follow instructions. collect old antifreeze and wash up ground so cats, dogs cannot get to as they like the sweet taste, but it can kill them. when completed flushing add 50/50 solution of a quality brand antifreeze. How do I flush the radiator on my 95 Camry?
Letting antifreeze run out on the ground is an environmental hazard and illegal in most states these days. If your coolant is brown then you have a lot of rust in the system. You really ought to consider taking it to a dealer where they're equipped to dispose of the old fluid properly and do a clean and flush of your system before putting in new coolant. Might be cheaper in the long run than getting ticketed for dumping and not getting the cooling system properly cleaned which could lead to early system failure. How do I flush the radiator on my 95 Camry?
back flush it.take off the bottom hose and the top hose, open the cap and put a garden hose through the bottom and let it push all the stuff out to the top.

Help! Why does my car goes dead when its temperature rised?

Recently, my car have some overheating problem...

The water always spill out from the radiator cap each after 10 minutes run.

After the car heats up at 90 centigrade, it get stall.

No matter how hard I try, the car wont start... Unless, if the car cooled down to 80 centigrade...

I changed my clogged radiator, broken thermostat, defective water pump, gaskets and so on... The water didn't spill out again...

Now, my car run at below 85 centigrade... Which is better than before... I also added some coolant in it...

The engine runs so much smoother than before...

    Now, here's the problem...

When the car is cold, it will rev up easily, powerful, quiet, easily ignite, and so forth... No problem is found... Just likes normal car...

But, when its reach 80 centigrade, the car runs weakly, easily stall, noisy, hard to crank, barely run and etc...

When the engine is heats up, its always stall each time I release the foot pedal, climbing small hills, turn the steering, turn on the air-cond, shifting to %26quot;D%26quot; gear and much more...

The car runs smoothly, no misfire is detected...

But, whole bunch of mechanics says it's the ignition system. So, I tried replace a new set of spark plugs and new set ignition coils.

    Still no luck...

Then, I found out my Catalytic Converter clogged. I replaced it, and it runs better. Yet, the problem is still not solved...

    Can someone help me?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

(Sorry for the long questions and my bad English... Lol!!)Help! Why does my car goes dead when its temperature rised?
Without knowing what brand car you have, you have two temperature sensors. One goes to your temperature gauge and the other to your power module. When you first start your car your computer module goes into a default, meaning, that all inputs (temperature, vacuum, etc) are preset by the computer. When your engine reaches a certain temperature, it signals the computer to get off default and start monitoring all inputs. You might want to check out if this sensor is not malfunctioning. It should be easy to locate it as most are installed around the front of the engine block in the vicinity of the water pump thermostat housing.Help! Why does my car goes dead when its temperature rised?

    1972 Nova cooling problem?

I have a 72 Nova with a stock 350 with a mild cam...I go down the road dosent matter what the season is and it goes to about 190-195 when i come to a red light or have to stop for a couple of seconds the temp rises to about 210 or more depending how long im sitting.. Anytime i start driving down the road and am continually driving it may drop down to about 180.. I've changed everything the radiator is a Be Cool Aluminum Radiator, i have a 16 inch Syclone High Performance electric fan that flows 2500 cfm that is on the inside of the engine compartment pulling in air from the outside, not on the front of the radiator facing the outside . i have a high flow water pump (not electric) with a 160 high flow thermostat.. After all this it still does the same thing.. I dont know iif its the engine building alot of heat or what, but is there something i can do like going to an electric water pump, or using header wrap or trying water restrictors to see if i can get the temp to stay 180 or below no matter what.1972 Nova cooling problem?

take out the thermostat don't need it restricting flow1972 Nova cooling problem?
May depend on the setting of the fan. Can you hear it come on as soon as the temp starts to rise? May need adjustment.

Some install different pulleys to help with extra power by running the accessories slower. This causes the water pump to run slower. Do you have these?

Try removing the stat temporarily to see if it makes a difference. There are some stats that allow larger volume of coolant.

Do you have the proper 50/50 coolant mix? Pure water will NOT cool as efficiently.

Bubba has a very good suggestion - shrouds can make a BIG difference. Without one - the only air being brought through the radiator, when sitting still, moving very slow or travelling with the wind, is the area immediately in front of the fan. This can leave a 30 to 50% lack of cooling?1972 Nova cooling problem?
I had the same problem and my neighbor, who was a GM engineer at the time, solved the problem for me. He instructed me to get a fan shroud. I installed a stock shroud and it solved the problem.

No heat in Mitsubishi 2002 Galant ES?

When i first bought my Galant last year, my heat was working perfectly. Then one day, all of a sudden, i went to turn it from 'cold' to 'hot' and i heard a loud/rapid clicking noise from behind the dashboard. It lasted for about 5-6 seconds and then stopped. Afterwards, I had no heat. The next morning, I constantly went back and forth between hot and cold and i got some heat back. But then the noise came a few days later and the heat was gone for good. I tried a lot of things to restore heat to my car. I flushed my anti-freeze first, then I ended up changing out the radiator (because in the summer, my car overheated repeatedly, and when I used my A/C, the passenger side floor would be flooded with water.). I found that the coolant inside my radiator looked like mud! There was no flow of coolant to my engine at all, as it was being evaporated inside the radiator. The hoses were all blocked with this brown, muddy texture substance. After a complete replacement was done, we changed the fluids and hoped and prayed for heat. Unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem. We figured that the muddy coolant had clogged some vital parts so we continued to investigate. My dad (a mechanic) suspected the waterpump to be bad and maybe that was causing the problem. So, just recently, we replaced the water pump and we were right about the water pump being bad, but even that didn't solve the lack of heat problem.

I researched the internet and found numerous discussion board posts staying, %26quot;The heater core is bad%26quot; or %26quot;the heater control valve is bad%26quot;. I was trying to avoid ripping apart my dashboard but my dad feels that the muddy-coolant substance may have clogged the heater core and it needs to be replaced or unclogged, and I'm about two weeks away from ripping my dash apart.

Has anyone had a similar issue? And if so, what did you do about it?

  • How can I purge radiator in a chevy venture 2003?

I have been looking for a valve at the bottom of the radiator but did not find it, I would like to change anti coolant liquid I will appreciate your help. How can I purge radiator in a chevy venture 2003?
if there is no valve at the bottom of the radiator, then you can always remove the lower radiator hose. This can be a little messy, but works well. After the antifreeze is out, reinstall the hose. When filling with the new antifreeze mix, make sure to let the coolant system %26quot;burp%26quot; out any air bubbles. This is done by running with the cap off of the radiator, once the thermostat opens, you will see the fluid level drop a lot. Top it off, put on the cap, run for another five minutes, shut off vehicle, and check fluid level again once it has cooled off.

the fan comes of with a special tool and some of them are reverse threads(clockwise to remove). you will need to rent or buy the tool that has two large wrenches, one to loosen the fan bolt and one to go across the 4 bolts that hold the pulley on to the pump. How do I change the heater core on a '95 chevy caprice?

I have no heat in the car. I changed the thermostat then flushed the heater core then flushed radiator. I put cardboard in front of radiator. Still no heat! Cold in michigan!

Do I need to change the core or is there something I'm missing? How do I change the heater core on a %26039;95 chevy caprice?
The only time you should have to change the heater core is when it's leaking. I would have to look at it to exactly know, but you should check the following:

    Does your heater motor work?

    Is your coolant level up?

Is there an air lock? do you need to bleed the system?

Does the engine run hot? ( you might have a bad water pump)

What is the heat range on your new thermostat?

Lastly, if anybody was fooling around under the dash they may have un plugged one of the vacuum lines that go to your heat selection switch. Try to get under there or remove the board that the switch is on and carefully inspect the back of the switch. You want to make sure that all the vacuum lines are plugged in without un plugging anything.

Good luckHow do I change the heater core on a %26039;95 chevy caprice?
NATHANIEL G has some good points and covers good areas however, I have seen heater cores in need of replacement due to plug up. In most cases it has been on GM vehicles because of the lack of performing coolant flushes. GM claims one can go 5 years or 100K miles before flushing the system out because dex-cool is supposed have longer life. Anyone thats been in the business long enough knows otherwise and thats why we recommend to our customers that the coolant be power flushed as soon as their GM warranty expires. That stuff turns to gel and causes all sorts of problems.

On a final note, NATHANIEL G suggested you check the heater control valve. Thats actually the first thing I would have checked, I'll walk you through it. Now I'm going assume that this is your only problem since you were not too specific in regards to weather or not the car is actually reaching operating temperature. Once your car is fully warmed, locate your heater control valve which should be toward the firewall on your right side in the engine compartment. Now physically turn that valve to the opposite direction and hold it there while someone sits in the car with the heater on. Did warm air come out? If yes, then now you have to find out why; Is there a vacuum hose broken? etc. If not, thats the best I can do without you giving us further information and even then it's hard to diagnose things without physically being there. Good luck! How do I change the heater core on a %26039;95 chevy caprice?

How to do a coolant flush on a 2001 Nissan Altima?

I'm going to be changing my lower radiator belt and bypass belt on my 2001 Nissan Altima. I understand that it is probably best to go ahead and do a radiator coolant flush as well. Was wondering if anyone could help me out with what all I'm going to need in order to do that and a brief overview of what its going to entail. I just gave my mechanic $120 to change some belts, so I'm not turning around and giving her more money for something I feel my dad and I can handle. Thanks in advance for your answers. How to do a coolant flush on a 2001 Nissan Altima?
Hi, I had my coolant changed at my dealer for about $39.00.I though this was a fair price for what had to be done on the job. Also Nissan sends me discounts on some of things that have to be done to your car. Once you use your dealer you probably will start getting them.Good Luck. How to do a coolant flush on a 2001 Nissan Altima?
You MUST use ONLY genuine Nissan COOLANT in this car!!!! You cannot mix any other kind with it, just distilled water. Every car-maker has their OWN coolant, for a good reason. You don't need a power flush in this car unless the wrong fluid was mixed with the factory fluid. You can drain the block and the radiator. READ your manual, it has details. ANy other coolant will eat holes in your engine's head over time. TRUST ME, I've rebuilt plenty. Collect the old coolant and return it to a quicky lube. Or, bring your own GENUINE Nissan coolant to a quicky lube, and let them drain and refill. Good Luck!!! Save $$$$$How to do a coolant flush on a 2001 Nissan Altima?
Do you mean lower radiator hose and thermostat bypass hose. If so you have to change the coolant.

    1. Remove radiator cap

    2. Open radiator drain cock, also sometimes called butterfly valve on the bottom corner of radiator, some are on the drivers side some on the passenger so check both. Let all the coolant drain out.

    3. Remove and replace the hoses, be sure to put the clamps back on tight. recomended you use a little oil to lube up the hoses when you put them back on.

    4. Remove the thermostat. replace the thermostat housing with a new gasket and no thermostsat.

5.Remove one end of the upper radiator hose and put a garden hose in it. Turn on the hose and leave it on untill clean water comes out the other end of the hose

    6. Re-drain radiator as it will have the garden hos water in it

    7. replace the thermostat preferably with a new one, put upper hose back on and tighten up

    8. Fill radiator with new coolant to top, and fill overflow tank to the %26quot;full cold line%26quot;.

    9. start car and check for leaks

How would I get my 93 Mercury Sable LS (3.8 L) up and running again?

My car has been broken down since about January. Mostly it was my fault for not maintaining it properly, I was unemployed for a couple months and couldn't get the oil changed or the radiator flushed. I drove it to Riverton about 30 miles away and it overheated, I'm thinking cause I didn't flush the radiator. Now it won't start at all so I'm thinking the battery is dead too. Did not flushing the radiator totally destroy my car? Would an oil change, new battery, and a flush help things? Any help would be great, thanks. How would I get my 93 Mercury Sable LS (3.8 L) up and running again?
The fact that you didn't do an oil change and a radiator flush probably has nothing to do with it over heating. The first thing is to make sure you don't have a bad head gasket that 3.8 engine always blow head gasket so before you put in money into it have someone check and see if the head gasket is okay. If it is then you probably only got a bad water pump or maybe just a blown hose. The not starting could be from to much coolant all over the engine. and no need to worry about the gas in it gas doesn't go bad that quick if it set for several years then you would have to be concerned about the gas. Get someone to jump start it and it should run and look for the leak you might have to put some water in it and yes just put water in it until you find the leak. How would I get my 93 Mercury Sable LS (3.8 L) up and running again?
i need to more info pinpoint the problem, (how hot did it get, how long did it run hot, etc.), Before you spend more money, the first thing is to check your oil, does it look milky? if so your engine is probably shot. Also check to see how much (if any) antifreeze is in your radiator. If it is empty and it overheated, a flush probably isnt going to help matters. However if the rad is empty, try filling it with water first and jumping your car, if it seems to run fine, drain the water and fill with antifreeze, you may have gotten lucky, but you'll need to check the antifreeze level for a while to make sure your not losing it somewhere. hope this helps, and good luckHow would I get my 93 Mercury Sable LS (3.8 L) up and running again?
Before you go spending money on it, you need to get it started . Most of the time they will start back up once they have cooled down . get the battery charged back up and put some water into the radiator and try to start the car, make sure THAT YOU HAVE GAS IN THE CAR . tHE GAS IN YOUR CAR IS STILL GOOD , BUT MAKE SURE YOU DO HAVE GAS IN IT. IF IT STARTS UP THEN CHANGE THE OIL AND YOU MAY NEED A NEW THERMOSTAT AS WELL AND ONCE YOU KNOW IT'S OK THEN PUT COOLANT BACK INTO IT.

2001 Kia Sportage Compressor Belt Replacement?

So I noticed the belt leading to the compressor on my car was missing, which would explain why my AC doesn't work. I went to the local auto shop and they said the belt would cost about $15. I also went to a repair shop and they gave a $117 estimate to do it for me. That is currently out of the question because I'm nearly broke as it is. So now my question is, is this an easy %26quot;Do It Yourself%26quot; job?

I've never really done any work on my car aside from flushing the radiator and changing the oil, so I'm pretty new at mechanics. Is there a guide anywhere that could show me how to do it? Or would it be too hard for a novice to do?2001 Kia Sportage Compressor Belt Replacement?
If you have a basic mechanical aptitude it shouldn't be a big deal to install. One thing to consider: If you bought the vehicle with the A/C not working, the belt may have been removed due to a seized compressor. To find out if this is the case with the engine off and a/c switches off, attempt to turn the pulley on the compressor. It should spin freely. Now try to spin the inner part of the pulley. It should be very difficult but possible. If both of those situations line up then you should be ok to install the belt.

  • Anyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?

I have a 96 toyota corolla. it's not a nice car, so i don't want to take it to a mechanic and pay to get it fixed. the problem is, the battery won't stay charged for more than 10 hours. just got a new battery, it went dead within 24 hours. i am going to try and troubleshoot myself with a multimeter on the fuses. my question is, what do I do once I find the battery leak? I don't see how finding the fuse leak will give enough info to troubleshoot the battery prob further.

if it makes any difference, i recently replaced the radiator and changed the alternator belt. thanks all.Anyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?
Remove the negative battery terminal and place a test light between the terminal and the cable end. If there is a significant draw on the battery, the test light will light bright. (Be sure everything is turned off and all of the doors are closed.)

Now simply remove the fuses one at a time and recheck the test light in the same manner - when you remove a fuse and the light goes out, you have pinpointed the faulty circuit. If none of the fuses shuts the light off, remove the alternator positive feed and recheck the light.

Added: Once you find the faulty circuit, for instance, the interior light fuse - I would start by removing all of the courtesy bulbs. If that doesn't put the light out, you may need to get a wiring diagram and see if that particular circuit feeds any other components (such as a trunk light, under hood light, glove box light, instrument lights and so forth.)Anyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?

Take to auto parts store and let them test the alternator, they will tell you wheather it is the alt or not . Make sure all connections are tight and that your belt tenioner is not looseing its tension.Anyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?
Well, the radiator should be a non-issue in this case.

But, when you changed the alternator belt, did you get it tight enough?

Also, the problems you are describing could be consistent with a shot alternator. Is it dying after 10 hours of running or after 10 hours?

Could also be an electrical leak in your car draining the battery while it's off. Especially on a car that age.

Assuming you're right, and the battery is losing charge, then just replace the battery. The way to see if that's the case simply is just to get the car running and make sure the battery is charged up all the way. Then shut off the car and take the battery out. Set the battery on the counter. Next day, put the battery back in and see how it performs after 12 or so hours out of the car.Anyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?

first make sure altentaor is chargeing . . now to check for a drain . a test light . take off pos bat ternimal . put test light in be twin pos . bat terminal an pos cable . if lights up you have a drain shourt . now leve light hook up an pull fuses one at a time till light goeas out . an your drain is in that cirket. if not imporent cirket just leave fuse out or trace that cirket out till you find pos wire that is shorting out or fed backAnyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?
now that you have a meter, the first thing to do is check the voltage at the batt with car running.

if the alt is working it will measure 14.5 volts or above.

if it reads 12.5 or 13 volts , the alt is not charging.

A working alt will charge a new batt in about 10 minuets.Anyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?
It's the alternator. Do a voltage test when running and if its not around 13.5-14.5 volts, then its a bad alternator.

How much to replace head gaskets for Toyota Camry 1994 2.2L?

My car is a Toyota Camry 1994 2.2L, also has LPG installed, done about 231,000 km. I'm based in Melbourne, Australia. My engine has been overheating a lot, coolant disappearing although no apparent leaks, radiator bubbles, some steam from exhaust. mechanic says %26quot;water in engine%26quot;, something about a blown head gasket. He quoted me between AUD 1200-1600. He also mentioned my radiator (never changed since 1994) is about to go, will cost another AUD400. Am i being ripped off cos i see answers here costing 5-800 assuming its USD.

my mechanic says they gotta take out part of the engine, send it somewhere (apparently Toyota sends their engine there too) to have it checked for cracks, or bending or sth to ensure no damage is done by the overheating.

let me know guys, thanks in advance! How much to replace head gaskets for Toyota Camry 1994 2.2L?
toyota is an import imports run more than domestic so the price he quoted is about average but i'm sure you could find it cheaper if you shop aroundHow much to replace head gaskets for Toyota Camry 1994 2.2L?
price will vary between shops but i dont know why they have to send out the engine to check for cracks. they should beable to do that themselves or have toyota or a toyota dealership do it. an overheated engine will have to be stripped down and checked for any internal damage though

Is my mechanic responsible for the cracked engine block? Any advice on dealing with the situation?

I have a 97 Toyota Avalon. 3 weeks ago my mechanic replaced the radiator. This past weekend that thermostat failed (was not replaced when the radiator was changed!) and cause the engine to overheat and the block to crack. I feel the mechanic should be partially responsible due to negligence in replacing the radiator and not suggesting or replacing the thermostat. How should I approach the situation? How much labor is involved/cost to replace an engine and do you know of any good sites for a good used one?Is my mechanic responsible for the cracked engine block? Any advice on dealing with the situation?
this looks like a question a while back about someone being pissed because a mechanic suggested replacing an extra peice while the car was apart and the customer blew his top about it.

as said ,if all the guages and lights were working then overheating should have been caught by you before too much damage. ask yourself this ,if he had suggested a water pump and new hoses and thermostat and flush, would you have said yes or come here to ask if you were being ripped off.Is my mechanic responsible for the cracked engine block? Any advice on dealing with the situation?
Partly, it depends on why the radiator was replaced.

If the radiator was replaced due to something poking a hole in, rather than corrosion, then there was no reason to worry about the thermostat unless something indicated the system needed to be thouroughly cleaned and checked out.

Modern radiator fluid is very good at corrosion prevention. So there may have been no indication that there was a need to look at the thermostat.

Note that the engine should have had a working temperature gage or warning light. Paying attention to that would have prevented cracking the block. The engine would not get hot enough to damage the block without that indicator showing a problem first.

Just the fact that you should have had warning of the overheating in time to prevent the catastrophic damage should absolve teh mechanic from needing to pay for even part of the repair/replacement.

Labor... appx 8 hours to remove and replace an engine. Varies some with car make and model year.

Engine cost varies also... a new engine will cost more than the car is worth. A useable engine from a salvage yard might be as cheap as $500. I'd avoid one that was less even if you do find one.

Try the salvage yard and ask for a 30 day 1000 mile exchange warrantee. (which means if it fails you take the engine back and get another... but does not do anything for the second exchange labor cost)Is my mechanic responsible for the cracked engine block? Any advice on dealing with the situation?
Well personally I think it is your responsibility to make sure your car isn't runnung hot. You should have a temp gauge or light, stop running it if it runs hot, and you should be watching even closer if you just had trouble with the radiator. Usually to crack the block you really have to overheat it, or pour cold water into the radiator after it has run hot.

Sorry, but no, I don't think your mechanic is responsible for your cracked block

As said in the answer above, having another engine put in is going to cost nearly as much as the car is worth. If you really love the car ask the mechanic, he will be the best source of a used engine in your area, and if you don't trust him, which it doesn't sound like you do, go to the local junk yard and price one.Is my mechanic responsible for the cracked engine block? Any advice on dealing with the situation?
interesting how you seem to know it was the thermostat that failed. im sure that you know that your cooling fans were on, your water pump is okay, and the head gasket didnt fail. etc... so wait... your mechanic should have replaced the radiator, thermostat, cooling fan switch, cooling fans, water pump, all hoses, and the head gasket, as to not be negligent. what? you dont want parts replaced that are ok? (all that whining about how much is this gonna cost, please keep it as cheap as possible, etc..) i mean yeah, they may fail later, but you dont want them? oh, i see. what you really want is to just hold someone accountable, maybe come back with a question like %26quot; why did i need more than one part? i think my mechanic is ripping me off%26quot;. ill bet the whole time you were driving with the car overheating, you were thinking, %26quot; im not pulling over, i just spent x dollars on the radiator, its my mechanics fault, its his problem%26quot; werent you? negligent car owner, hear me. your mechanic did not build your car, he did not break it, and was honest enough not to replace a bunch of things you didnt need. sorry for your luck.Is my mechanic responsible for the cracked engine block? Any advice on dealing with the situation?
thermostat failed 3 weeks later is not his fault.you would be upset if he replaced it when it was working fine. and how long did YOU drive with it overheating??? Aluminum blocks and heads cant take it like old time motors...to crack a block YOU must have driven quite a few miles withe the light on or gauge in the red.. best bet is advance or auto zone for long blockIs my mechanic responsible for the cracked engine block? Any advice on dealing with the situation?
If the thermostat was functioning properly at the time of the service then it did not require replacement.

If you drove the vehicle while it was overheating long enough to crack the block (that is really, really, really freakin hot!) then you are going to have to pony up for your share of the responsibility here. The damage from the failed thermostat (assuming that was the problem) is 100% preventable. When your engine starts to overheat, shut it down immediately! You clearly didn't do that.Is my mechanic responsible for the cracked engine block? Any advice on dealing with the situation?
I'm sorry, but usually a mechanic fixes what is broke at the time. If you had been paying attention to the heat gauge on your car, it would not have overheated, so I would say to flog the mechanic here is out of line. To answer your question about the cost - I would find another engine (from a salvage yard or a rebuilt engine) and have it swapped. Make sure that you get a new head because it will be warped. Good luck.

How do you clean the inside of a plastic car radiator overflow container?

The interior of the container is caked with, what I assume is, lime or scale. I can safely and easily drain and remove the container (I'm a longtime backyard mechanic), but I can't figure out how to clean it, because a hose or similarly pressurized device won't fit into it. FWIW, I have a '99 Crown Vic, and there is nothing wrong with the radiator, hoses, or fluid, which was changed less than 2 years ago and of which my coolant tester says is fine. How do you clean the inside of a plastic car radiator overflow container?

I should have deleted this Q; the %26quot;ken k%26quot; answer was too extreme, and Gary J's answer was half wrong: you can't clean anything with the very thing that caused the problem, in this case, water! Why my car lasts a lot to warm up the engine and in highway speed temperature drops?

i have a Civic 1997, since i changed a non working radiator with a new one (i dont know how it works, they just told that they put one that works faster) the temperature drops in highways and never goes to the middle again until i stop. I asked if it was the thermostat but he said that its because the new radiator that has more capacity.. what do you think guys?.. Note: In the city and standing still it works fine. Why my car lasts a lot to warm up the engine and in highway speed temperature drops?
sounds like the thermostat, a bigger radiator does cool better but the thermostat should still cut off coolant flow so it will get to operating temperature regardless of how big the radiator is, if it is the electric fan switch than highway use would not matter because the air is already flowing accross the radiator. thermostats are cheap and easy to replace, i would just try one. another alternative is just to place something accross a portion of the radiator, large trucks usually do this in very cold weather, just make sure it doesnt overheat if you cover too much of it.Why my car lasts a lot to warm up the engine and in highway speed temperature drops?
Radiator capacity has nothing to do with it. Its the function of a thermostat. When the car is warming up and any time the engine temperature drops below the thermostat setting the thermostat is closed and the coolant is circulating around the engine bypassing the radiator, this this is how the engine temperature is controlled. Why my car lasts a lot to warm up the engine and in highway speed temperature drops?
this is because of the electric thermostat, not the mechanical one. the electric thermostat is controlled by the ECU. my honda does the same thing, but I've been too lazy to fix it.

    No hot water, heating fine.?

    Hi all,

I recently moved into a new (old) house a few months ago and moved/changed one of the radiators so I drained the system. At the same time I decided to change it from a gravity fed hot water system to a fully pumped S plan by moving the pump and motorised valves around (more on this later).

Details of current system are as follows:

    - open vented

    - 20 year+ old Glow-worm space saver boiler

    - two Honeywell 2 port motorised valves (making it an S plan)

    - 2 speed Grundfos pump (set to 2 at all times)

    - combination of 22mm and 15mm copper pipe all round. 22mm is used to feed CH but where the T piece is after the pump the HW copper pipe is reduced to 15mm to feed into the HW tank.

I originally just moved the radiator and when testing my handywork I noticed that the HW motorised valve wasn't working (stuck open) so i decided to replace this (I never tested the system fully when I first moved in so I can't be sure of how the previous owners used to run the system - the HW motorised valve was set to manual so they must have known it was knackered). After testing the radiator I looked at the pipe layout and decided that it would be straightforward and more efficient to convert it to a fully pumped S plan from a gravity fed HW system. The main reason for this was that the pump was activating when calling for HW only anyway (which actually pumped water around the CH system as well?!) - and the CH motorised valve was actually placed first so you could only get HW if CH was switched on anyway. It was a very bizarre layout and made no sense when operating the controls. The wiring was for a fully pumped S plan system but the pipe layout was for gravity fed (and even that was a botch job).

Anyway I got around the changing all the radiators to TRVs (except for 2 which are lockshields left fully open at all times) and have now testing the system which is detailed below:

    - CH only. Boiler fires, pump activates, CH motorised valve opens, CH works fine.

    - CH + HW. Boiler fires, pump activates, CH and HW motorised valves open, CH works fine and have HW.

    - HW only. Pump activates, HW motorised valve opens, boiler fires for about 30secs - 2mins then stops. Pump continues to run and HW motorised valve stays open.

Has anybody got any idea as to what could be causing this? It can't be the thermostat on the HW tank as the pump and motorised valve are still both running/open and it works fine when using CH + HW. There is still a little bit or air in the system but it is working it's way out (by bleeding the radiators). No inhibitor has been used yet until I know I won't have to drain the system again. There can't be a blockage or air trap in the HW circuit as I get HW when both CH + HW are switched on. Everything seems fine until the boiler cuts out.

    It's driving me crazy!

    Many thanks in advance,

    Paul.No hot water, heating fine.?
Check if you have one radiator (usually the bathroom) getting warm when hot water only is on, some system are piped with a loop through a rad from the hot water, if this is the case, the water is taking the easiest route to the rad. It is a water resistance problem somewhere in any event, this is just one suggestion. You may have inadvertently linked flow to flow on hot water, this will let the water flow to a degree but will shut the boiler down quickly when the pressure backs up and the boiler overheats, if the hot water is not returning but is getting to the cylinder, it is one of the above. No hot water, heating fine.?
Is there a problem in the controller, affecting the signal to the boiler when HW alone is selected? Can you check the electrical signal from the controller in all situations? No hot water, heating fine.?
    Hi - %26quot; HW only. Pump activates, HW motorised valve opens, boiler fires for about 30secs - 2mins then stops. Pump continues to run and HW motorised valve stays open%26quot;

For what it's worth! The boiler WILL only run for short periods when supplying hot water only. This is because it only needs to heat the (relatively) small amount of water in the primary circuit. Are the flow and return pipes, to the coil in the cylinder, about the same temperature? The boiler will not cut in again until the temperature of the primary circuit drops.

Are you SURE that the pump continues to run when the boiler shuts down? SOUNDS like a wiring issue. You could mail me a pipework diagram/photos of the installation if you want.No hot water, heating fine.?
just by reading and not seeing the layout i can only deduce that somehow the primary return is not a return but instead has been teeed into the flow circut of the ch.The hot water you are getting when you have your ch +hw on is only because the primary circut is returning thru a radiator. to test this set your pro gamer to ch/hw on and close off all radiators manually.if primary flow goes cold its return is secondary ie. tru a radiator. This is a very inefficient way of heating water.

easy fix if you can access the pipe work .good luck with it.

How to change heater hose (connector that connects into heatercoil)?

When changing my heater hose(lower radiator hose) i noticed that the connector type fitting that sticks out of the firewall of my car is cracked in half and that was were it was leaking. how do i change that piece. i tried unscrewing it but that didnt work. i tried giong thru the dashboard floor area and only get stuck with things that i can't remove. i can not put the hose back on until i have the small piece replaced. someone said it is connected into the heater coil? behind the fire wall? How to change heater hose (connector that connects into heatercoil)?
No it isn't behind the F/W.

You already removed the clamp on the rubber hose????

If so get a razor blade and slit the hose starting at the firewall and going away from it for about 2.4 inches. Then take a screw driver and gently work it into the slit you cut and get the hose to release off the heater core pipe. Be carefull the heater core is brass or aluminum and deforms/crushes really easy then you are screwed. Heater hose is available by the foot(price) and custom cut for what ever you aske from a 50-100 foot roll. Take the old one to the parts store with you and get two new clamps,do not reuse the factory ones(they suck).

yes you can do it but it is a major job. you will have to remove just about every body part on the front of the car and the radiator, ac condenser and a bunch of other stuff. If you have some mechanical knowledge you can do it just take your time and label everything and take pictures to help you put it back together. If I remember right (its been a while since we have done one in my shop) the front core support bolts in on your model. If so you would be money and time ahead by just getting one from a salvage yard. By the way there will be 100 idiots on here telling you to buy a Chilton's or other type repair manual to do this job, don't waste your time as there is next to nothing in them as far as body work goes. Dig in and take pictures and you can do it just dont get in a hurry

Why is my steam radiator hissing?

It's so loud it keeps me up at night.

I have changed the steam valve, but my radiator is still hissing.

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks. Why is my steam radiator hissing?
By %26quot;I have changed the steam valve%26quot; do you mean the valve that lets steam in, or the air vent (if it has one)? A steam valve (the one that lets the steam in) should be all the way open or all the way closed - don't use it as a throttle unless it's incremented (has 0 - 10 written on it).

The air vent (little thing on the side that looks like a bullet - on one-pipe steam systems) should hiss as it's letting the air out of the rad, then close when steam hits it. If it's closing, that is, no steam comes out of it, then I'm not sure what you can do about that, other than to contact Hoffman, who makes most of them. Perhaps they can recommend a different, quieter model. Why is my steam radiator hissing?

Do i need to remove the guard to get to the drain? Also, how can i loosen up these rusted nuts?Can%26039;t remove the splash guard to change my coollant.?
Wash the rust off and clean the things with a wire brush. One things I'm going to tell you, by draining and filling the radiator you're replacing less than half the coolant. Locate a shop that can do a flush for $60-80. They use a machine and replace 100% of the coolant. New thermostat is recommended after a flush and you can do this yourself. Make sure the overflow tank is clean too, if not take it out and wash it with soap.Can%26039;t remove the splash guard to change my coollant.?

How do you flush a radiator?

I have an acura integra ls 1995. want to save money, dont want to spend 70 dollars to have someone else do it. so how do i flush my radiator. I got my oil changed and my fluid is almost gone. The guy said i need a flush cause their is some build up or something. How do you flush a radiator?
sounds more prudent to find where all the fluid disappeared to first. the best way to flush a radiator though is with the machines the shops have. How do you flush a radiator?
Fill it up with water and leave it to stand. Check for leaks.

Then run the engine on tick over and check continuously for leaks. if you cannot see water on the floor, but the level has dropped in the radiator, then it's more likely to be the head gasket allowing the water to leak into the engine or exhaust. How do you flush a radiator?
Used coolant is considered a hazard to the environment and should be disposed of by a professional. its best to have the service performed by a shop that utilizes a coolant flush/exchange machine. There are a lot of do-it-yourself chemicals out there that work real well IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER. But would you like to try it yourself and not know if you have accomplished anything, or pay a professional to do it right the first time?

Why am i so cold?,is it my diet?

over the past few months i have been trying to loose weight, and certainly succeeding. i lost 2 stone. i feel a lot more confident as being 13 means that a lot depends on how you look.

but lately ive been really cold a lot of the time and ive had no energy at all. whenever i change i always change by the radiator which is turned up ot the max. i then have burning hot showers. ive tried adding more sugar to my diet but not really succeeding. should i just give it more time or is it something else? Why am i so cold?,is it my diet?
    * LOW THYROID FUNCTION. Try drenamin and go check out this web site www.gohealthgirl.com. She had that problem, her diet helps you to regain circulation.

    * You could be anemic.

    * One possibility is hypothyroidism , in which levels of thyroid hormone are below normal.

    * There are many causes of feeling cold all the time. This could be from anemia or a thyroid disorder or circulatory problems related to diabetes, high cholesterol or many various other disorders. You should see your family doctor for a routine check up and labwork to know for sure!

    * I know another answer, although insignificant, apparently, not getting enough affection, can make you cold.

    * Some people don't have enough muscle mass or the insulating fat layer which helps keep most people warm. The muscles help warm the body, while the fat layer helps keep the heat where it belongs. There is also a possibility or hormone imbalance.

    * Raynaud's Disease. Do a search for that, you will find good information about this condition. It is bad circulation in your feet, fingers and nose. Your body temperature is always lower than most people. You will be surrounded by people who love %26quot;air conditioning%26quot;, yet the heater is your best friend. Good luck. No treatment is found for this, my research has shown it to be annoying more than a health issue.

    * One reason people feel Cold, in hands and feet, can be due to dips in blood pressure. This is acctually fairly common as it is caused by not drinking enough water. Drink more water and see if it helps. The drops in blood pressure also can cause 'black outs', fainting or dizzy spells...Why am i so cold?,is it my diet?
First of all. I don't know how much you weigh now. I don't usually encourage 13 year olds to diet. You should speak with a Dr. or nutritionist to evaluate the need... But here's a little information any way.

Being cold is not a symptom of diet.

Maybe you're not eating enough and you're shaky? I would re-examine your diet. A woman must consume at least 1200 calories a day to perform basic bodily functions, a man must consume 1500. Children as young as you need to eat more, I don't have that figure however.

I would also recommend a daily multi-vitamin just to cover all of your bases.

Good luck with your diet. Why am i so cold?,is it my diet?
If you have very little body fat you will be more disposed to feeling cold. Fat acts like an insulator.

You may also live in an environment that is both cool and humid - a sure formula for feeling cold all the time. I live in such a place and am chronically cold.

I'm more concerned about the %26quot;having no energy%26quot; part. Are you getting enough sleep, eating healthy fats and protiens (fish, nuts, etc) and getting enough exercise? All those things could lead to chronic fatigue. I would hate for you to be dealing with that at 13! If it persists, consider mentioning it at your next doctor visit. Why am i so cold?,is it my diet?
I hope that when you said you had weight loss it was through a dietican or doctor.

Losing 2 stone is quite a lot and your body is probably feeling the cold weather, you could be anaemic, try taking iron tablets, eat more fresh foods and drink warm drinks such as tea etc. not coffee has it can be drying.

Try to wear a warm wooly jumper and try to eat more, try ginger tea it warms my system up first thing and gives me energy to keep on in the day.Why am i so cold?,is it my diet?
i am 13 too, and i feel really cold too lately.

    i weigh 6 stone 4 lbs.

its probably not good to be having burning hot showers,

if its too hot you could faint.

and it might just be the climate itself or because you are not wearing the correct clothing idk

hope this helps xWhy am i so cold?,is it my diet?
yes, it is your diet, loosing weight doesnt mean that its also going to be healthy, eat things that have hot essence, loose wt, but be healthy also, coldness is not the sign of health. Why am i so cold?,is it my diet?
Your metabolism is slowing down. Eat a large amount of food at least once a week. It sound help your metabolism to speed up and help with your cold problem. Why am i so cold?,is it my diet?
the weathers hardly hot at the moment ;D

i wouldnt worry too much about it,

congrats on the weight loss too

as long as you eat healthily it shouldnt affect whether your hot or cold

xoWhy am i so cold?,is it my diet?
Yes, it probably is your diet. You are probably not eating enough.

Look it up on Google, it has a lot to do with Chemistry and Biology. Calories are a unit of HEAT (the amount of heat required to raise 1 g of water 1掳C at a specified temperature) so a high energy deficit means a lower metabolism is to be maintained in one's body in an attempt to CONSERVE energy. What you describe has happened to me too, when I eat very little and exercise a lot for an extended amount of time my extremities, in particular my hands, are always cold! But the opposite happens when I consistently eat more than I should and do not exercise as much: my body's core temperature rises. I'm no expert, but I'm quite sure it means that my body is responding to the higher energy intake and thus burning more calories(calorie burning = feeling a little warmer DUH). This probably explains why some bodybuilders assess their metabolism by taking their temperature with a thermometer, and why thermogenics are called the way they are (thermo - temperature)...

If you have no energy, chances are that you're either becoming deficient in several vitamins/minerals (iron and B vitamins for example), or just aren't INGESTING enough energy to keep your body going - or perhaps both cases.

Also, fatty acids in the diet are used to regulate body temperature (whereas bodyfat, as someone else said, is an insulator - people who have extremely low body fat as well as anorexics usually feel cold ALL THE TIME). If you eat a more normal amount of fat in your diet (from healthy foods - nuts, olive oil, etc.) and enough kilocalories, you will start having more energy and feeling healthier. This is not necessarily suggesting weight gain at all.

Finally, get enough sleep !Why am i so cold?,is it my diet?
Hold on there, sunshine! If the world depended on looks, NOTHING would get done! Get that notion OUT of your head before you end up killing yourself.

Tell me, what kind of 'diet' was this? Did you still a proper amount of fruit, veg, carbs and meat(if you're not veggie, that is)?

Fast energy foods like sugary stuff (chocolate etc) won't keep you healthy. The only thing that ameks you put on excess weight is excess fats in your diet. Check out the food pyrimid, and if you want to lose weight, live by that one! Losing a lot of weight in a short time, while you may feel better about yourself isn't good for your health.

I'm no medical expert, but don't forget to feed yourself. Regular exercise each day helps too, around twenty-thirty minutes should do. Don't wear yourself out too much at the gym or whatever.

If you're really concerned about this cold thing, visit your GP.

    Good luck! x
