92 Mustang GT overheating?

Back in march it overheated one day with out notice. Never had a leak or wet spot in the garage at all or anything and one day boom it happened. Came to find out it was the water pump. Had the water pump replaced, drove car for a week and bam ,started over heating again. Replaced thermostat a few weeks later, still O H. Had a compression test done and nothing is leaking or losing compression. Head gasket is fine no smoke or water in oil. Just looked today and the top radiator hose looked loose and to my surprise the piece that the hose goes over was completely off. So now i know it needs new radiator. But I've noticed before this inside radiator is all white and looks corroded. Could this be my cause of OH? Ive tried everything that everyone has told me. Also how hard is it to change the radiator?

Thanks92 Mustang GT overheating?
The white inside could be lime left-over from the overheating. Pulling the radiator is a drive way afternoon, if the weather is decent. While you have it apart, replace both radiator hoses. I think the Mustang radiator is the same as the Crown Vickie, %26amp; if you're going to keep the car, spent the extra couple of bucks for the heavy duty radiator with extra cooling cores.92 Mustang GT overheating?
this is a trick - its out there - and its old

drain its - coffee filter it - add water and 2 gallons white vinegar - run it till hot - its mild acid thing - isopropyl rubbing alcohol - below 32 degrees add - radiator cap off - it will free up or leak

My indica gets heated very frequently method to start radiator fan before heat needle reaches middle of gauge

Have got radiator cleaned got adjusted the fip changed battery.

The radiator fan starts working only after needle showing temperature crosses middle point and some times it crosses 3/4 mark.Kindly suggest how to start radiator fan when heat needle reaches 1/4 mark of temp gauge. My indica gets heated very frequently method to start radiator fan before heat needle reaches middle of gauge
Cars are designed to run around 190 degrees Fahrenheit, which is usually the middle of the indicator gauge that you are talking about. It is normal for the needle to sit right at, or just above, the center of the gauge. The electric cooling fan is activated by a temperature sensor that monitors the coolant temperature and should turn the fan on at the point when the needle is a little above the middle mark of the gauge. The reason for turning on then is that the thermostat that regulates the flow of coolant to the radiator is open fully, the engine is at the prime operating temperature and the hot coolant is flowing through the radiator. The fan turns on only to maintain the temperature from getting too hot, but turns off so that it doesn't fall too low.

Turning on the fan before the engine is up to temperature would do little as there would probably not be any coolant flowing through the radiator to be cooled until the thermostat opened up.

However, if the gauge is getting 3/4 of the way up the gauge before it activates, you may want to replace the temperature sensor that controls the cooling fan. Also make sure that you have the proper amount of coolant in your system as too little will create air pockets that could accumulate around the sensor and give it a false reading. Your thermostat could also be suspect by it not opening when it should, or maybe not all the way, and not allowing the coolant to the radiator when it should causing the higher than normal reading.

You maybe should have a mechanic do some diagnostic testing on it for you to verify that everything is working correctly and to help identify any problems.

Best of luck.

Can i get money from Meineke?

So last thursday i decide to get a oil change from them which happens when im tired because i would prefer to do it myself.

I walk in there i ask about the type of oil change i ask for the most expensive which is the prefer with tire rotation.

I leave the car he says about 45 minutes.

Fine there is a all you can eat pizza place across the street so i decide to walk there while i get the oil changed.

Before i sit down i get a call that me radiator busted???

I don't eat i go directly back so i lost 10 bucks........

he mentioned as soon as they put it on the rack it must have had a hole already. I WAS IN SHOCK HOW COULD THAT BE.......

Guy mentioned he can replace for 420 out the doors i look at him crazy and then offer to fix for 300. Wow what a price break.

No way i can do myself and i don't have that type of money.

I TAKE A PICTURE OF WERE THE CAR WAS PARKED FOR A GOOD 5 MINUTES NO COOLANT LEAK AT ALL NOT EVEN ANY DROPS.

I take a picture of the floor no coolant at all.

I WOULD HATE TO ASSUME THEY PUNCTURED ME RADIATOR TO MAKE MONEY DURING THESE HARD TIMES.

THIS COMPANY IS WITH BBB AND THE ONLY REASON I TRUSTED THEM.

He offer to get me a radiator for 125 when i just looked in the bb and found 1 at Kragen for 99.99. Wow this guy does not stop trying to make money.

I go across the street and buy coolant and water to attempt to drive home.

a hour past less then a mile i go pick up all the parts i ordered.

I had to sell the radiator which means now i have to flush the whole engine also. Only was i could drive the car home with out it over heating.

This is all thursday on the day off which if i knew they seem to be this way i would have changed myself in 20 minutes but i want some rest. But ended up putting a whole days work until thursday night.

Very next day i am working i am a merchandiser in this car is the commuter car. About a 2 hours in to the day i noticed i was leaking oil and coolant. Its a common problem when you change the radiator that the water pump goes also.

Yes the guy did not tighten the oil pan screw and i had to fill the up again!!!!!!!

Yes drip drip from a so called Professional location backed by the BBB.

So i have call in from work friday after 2 hours of working to fix the car. I arrive home it is to late but i did buy the parts to fix. I live in a apartment and how i wish i had a garage with light for i can fix that day and not miss another day at work. That's friday i let work know i will not be able to come in i have to fix the water pump. About 4 hour and it cost about 80 dollars for the parts and at any location 250 for the labor.

Im back to work Sunday car all good now thanks to me being lazy and the oil place being crooked.

Total money lost.

Friday for work:200

Sat work:250

Labor thur:300

labor sat:300

What can i do about this????

Any help because i have never encountered a situation like this.

PS will always change me own oil from now on.Can i get money from Meineke?
Your experience with this chain matches mine. I don't know how they can get any return business if they're ripping people off.

Your radiator probably wasn't busted, they just told you it was. In fact, in all probability your water pump was leaking, they saw a drip and %26quot;assumed%26quot; (whether in good faith or bad) that the leak was coming from the radiator. $420 sounds like a decent price for parts and labor if they're replacing the entire cooling system. Which is crazy expensive, but when you've got to take old radiator hoses off it's a good time to replace 'em.

If you still had that radiator you could take it to an independent radiator shop to verify, if the radiator is good or if it's bad and you can prove Mieneke put a hole in it you may have a claim for fraud. Aside from possible punitive damages (those laws vary by state) you aren't entitled to any more than it would have cost for a competent mechanic to fix what they did to your car, possibly attorney fees and costs, and the value of loss of use of your car (i.e., what a rental would cost). A competent mechanic could likely have fixed all this in about 4 hours.

It may be worth the initial consultation fee to talk to a lawyer. Can i get money from Meineke?
The only thing you can do is call the store manager and complain about the oil leak. It'll be hard to prove that he did somethign to the radiator, even with the pictures, but you certainly can try.

Your best bet is to just forget about it and not go back.

  • How much will it cost me to change my upper and lower radiator hoses in a 2003 chrysler pt cruiser?

Probably about $40 if you do it yourself and around $200 if you have someone do it for you.How much will it cost me to change my upper and lower radiator hoses in a 2003 chrysler pt cruiser?
I agree with Pengy....Why? If there's no leaks, and the rubber on the hose isn't cracked, then don't worry. If it is looking shabby, then go to your nearest parts store, and get replacements. It's an easy fix, and sure cheaper than taking it to the dealer!

Good Luck! How much will it cost me to change my upper and lower radiator hoses in a 2003 chrysler pt cruiser?
Question would be why? If they are not leaking (and it is rare for both to go out at the same time) there is no use for it. Simple fix using a screwdriver. Hose about $10-20 Replace coolant $20, feeling of accomplishing it, priceless

    Tryin to buy a car?

hey im trying to buy this 1992 saturn but it's automatic and im getting it for 200$ it has minor problems nothing major just minor like changing the radiator hose and stuff is it possible to change the transmition to manual if so how much would it cost me if not is it worth buying and fixing and selling for more and buying a stick shift car thx in advaceTryin to buy a car?
I would cost you about $3500.00 or more its not worth it for this bagel!Tryin to buy a car?
Either drive it as an automatic or don't buy it. The price is fine for a driver if you don't have to do too much to it. Of course if you can do the repairs for $200 and the car looks clean you could do ok with a buy, fix and sell.Tryin to buy a car?
The Saturn has a transverse engine layout. It's very difficult to change out the tranny.

Either leave it an automatic or don't buy it.

Where is this car, if you don't want it I might?

    .

What parts do i need to turbo my carbie 12a and roughly how much does it cost?

i have a series 1 rx7 standard 12a i just want to put a small turbo in it. i was thinking of a t25 turbo whats the average cost of that. what else do i need to convert it like do i need to change the brakes radiator etc? What parts do i need to turbo my carbie 12a and roughly how much does it cost?
There used to be a kit for this 20 years ago. Brakes and radiator are OK. Think you have to get a pressure box for around the carb and a higher pressure fuel pump. Stock pump is only about 4.5 lbs. Turbo pressures approaching that level will push fuel back out of carb.

Turboing an injected car much easier.

How easy is it to put thermostats on radiators?

I am finding it impossible to find a plumber to do the work.... and my gas central heating radiators don't have thermostats. Where thermostats would go the screws seem to be permanently locked on OPEN/FULL meaning that some rooms (downstairs loo, bedrooms) get heated when they're seldom used, or when minimum heating is needed.

I have seen DIY kits in Focus and B%26amp;Q which suggest it's possible to change the radiator fittings without draining the system. Every time I speak to %26quot;an expert%26quot;, I get one of those replies that starts with a *hiss* followed by a sentence that includes %26quot;draining the system%26quot;.

How easy is it actually to put on thermostats without draining the system? Are these DIY non-system draining kits worth the money and do they work? How easy is it to put thermostats on radiators?
Yes you will have to drain the system, or at lest part drain.

To fit a thermostatic radiator valve you will have to remove the lock shield valve from the flow end of the radiator and replace it with the new valve. You cant do this with water in the radiator as it will squirt out all over the room.

Its not hard to drain the system, should only take 30 Min's. and it will remove some of the sludge in the system (system will work better without sludge build up).

What system do you have? with more information I can tell you haw to do the job.

    (plumber)

p.s I would not buy cheaply made valves from B%26amp;Q etc. chose a good brand like 'Danfoss'. more relable. How easy is it to put thermostats on radiators?
Sorry, but Rimmer's answer is not quite correct. The radiator can be removed if both valves are closed (e.g. when decorating behind it) but if you remove either valve water will gush out all over. You need to turn off the water supply, drain all the water out of the central heating system before removing a valve. It's not a difficult DIY job but you do need to know what you are doing. Get someone who DOES know to either do it or help or just advise whilst you do it. By the way, if the valves are stuck open they can be freed fairly easily and this might be the cheapest and easiest solution. Take the plastic cap off the valve - it either pulls off or has a screw in the top, then put a spanner or some grips on the metal bit that's underneath the cap. Make sure you turn the grips clockwise. Once it's turned you will find it loosens easily. Good luckHow easy is it to put thermostats on radiators?
It sounds like you have a boiler. All radiators must work, because it's on a constant flow loop. It's impossible to set boiler radiators up on seperate thermostats after the system has been installed. The system can be altered to allow multiple thermostats, but it will be costly. There would be a lot of plumbing that would need re-done.How easy is it to put thermostats on radiators?
I would leave a job like this till the summer when you can drain the system and times not a priority, I fitted thermostats to some radiators but they weren't very reliable so if you do this make sure they are the best you can buy, which are quite expensive for the whole system. Until then I would think you would be better off making sure the on off valves are working. I have a small adjustable spanner (which fits on my keyring so shows the size of it) and use this for obstinate valves. Another point I should like to make, when you turn the radiator valve on or off there is no need to use too much force if you turn them on hard to the top when they heat up and expand this is when they lock, always turn them back half a turn the same amount of water will still flow and they will not seize. How easy is it to put thermostats on radiators?
You have to drain the system with this boiler, if it was a conventional vented system, you can get bungs to stop air intake, but I wouldn't consider trying to do a full system with them, when you refill the system, you must add inhibitor, if not, and swalec did a water test, they will know, and any breakdown cover will be invalid. How easy is it to put thermostats on radiators?
Okay my own system is an open vented conventional boiler so nothing like the askers. When fitting thermostatic rad valves to our horrid minibore system I drained down and got out the hacksaw to cut the pipes back enough to fit the larger thermostatic valves. Oh how I hate minibore!

Make sure that you leave a minimum load for the boiler: I believe that this is usually the bathroom radiators.

I am curious as to how effective those freezer kits are that the DIY stores sell. Not that I'm ever likely to use one, but curioius nonetheless. How easy is it to put thermostats on radiators?
Don't believe Rimmer, there's nothing to stop the entire system draining back through either end and most systems of any age will be full of black water which will ruin carpets etc.

Ask B%26amp;Q if you can read the instructions before buying or just buy one kit and read them but if you don't have any plumming skills don't attempt the job as you may end up having to employ a very expensive plummer anyway. How easy is it to put thermostats on radiators?
you will have to drain part of the heating system ,to fit thermostats to the radiators.Get a good D I Y book.Do not remove the valves before draining down!!! best of luckHow easy is it to put thermostats on radiators?
A Pumber once told me that the quickest and easiest way was to put a floorcloth over the valve to minimise the water flow and then remove and replace the valve. Easy (not!)How easy is it to put thermostats on radiators?
Rimmer is spot on but as an added precaution make sure a) that your central heating is turned off when you do the work so it isn't pumping more water round and b) get some freezing spray from your DIY store and spray it on the pipe which feeds into the radiator (spray it then put some lagging around it - should last about 15 mins - enough time to get the job done). If in doubt get an %26quot;expert%26quot; in but tell him what you've been told here so they can't take a proverbial and make you drain the whole system... In the meantime just turn the radiators off in the rooms you're not using! How easy is it to put thermostats on radiators?
You don't have to drain the entire system - just the rad you are fitting the thermostat too!

Close off at inlet end - open outlet end - it might get a bit wet so take care - drain rad, then fit thermostat as instructed on the packet! re-connect outlet end. You might get a bit of air in the system but you can bleed this out with a key!
